Introduction
We love Cambridge in the Summer! We’ve been on King’s Parade, opposite the iconic King’s College, since 1952. Cambridge is at its best in the hustle and bustle of the summer months, so come and pop into the city for the day. Cambridge is one of the most famous university cities in the world and with that comes a lot of history, culture and interesting things to do.
From punting down the river to visiting museums there are plenty of things to do in Cambridge for all types of people, especially if you love taking photos!
The team got their heads together to come up with some things in the city we’re proud to call our home.
1. Punting
The River Cam runs through Cambridge and punting is a great way to enjoy our river that winds past beautiful fen land and university colleges. Best enjoyed with friends and family, you can drive your own punt [if you’re feeling adventurous!] or get yourself a driver so you can sit back and relax while taking in the scenery. Just remember to keep a good hold of your camera!
You can find out more about your options here.
2. Visit the university colleges
As one of the most famous university cities in the world, you will definitely walk past a lot of colleges when you visit Cambridge. The university has 31 colleges and they all play their part in making Cambridge a very special place. You’re surrounded by such great history and beautiful architecture – it really is a unique place!
You can visit a number of the colleges and we’re big fans of King’s College. Our shop is opposite this iconic college so we may be a little bit biased, but it’s definitely worth visiting! It’s like travelling back in time.
Take a look at the different colleges, and how you can visit them, here.
3. Take a bike tour around Cambridge
When you visit Cambridge, expect to see a lot of bicycles! They’re a big part of Cambridge and one of the most popular forms of transport. Cycling is such a great way to see this beautiful city and you get to cover a lot of ground on two wheels! Our friends at Cambridge Bike Tours offer a range of tours with a friendly face! And don’t forget to ring your bell [or even better pop into the shop] when you cycle passed Campkins Cameras on King’s Parade.
You can find out more here.
4. Shopping
Cambridge has some of the best shopping in Cambridge, from the fantastic Lion Yard Shopping Centre [with most major retails found in this modern and airy place] to our very own King’s Parade with its eclectic collection of independent shops.
So grab a few hours of retail therapy by starting here.
5. Food & Drink
Cambridge has an enviable collection of pubs and places to eat! We have some famous pubs such as The Eagle on Benet Street [just around the corner from us] and more modern alternatives such as BrewDog just a few doors down from The Eagle. The Market Square has some great street food stalls and you’re not far from a place to have an ice cream or coffee as you take in the Cambridge Vibes!
So have a well-earned drink and meal. You just need to find what suits your tastes. The best start here to help you!
6. Bonus Tip! [for photographers of all abilities]
Ok so we have one more tip – we couldn’t write about places to visit in Cambridge without mentioning Campkins Cameras. As an independent retailer, we’re proud to have been in business in Cambridge since 1952. If you love your photography then we’re here to help:
