The Panasonic DMC-FZ200 is a Bridge camera that has fantastic Leica optical quality and bright f/2.8 aperture right through the 24x zoom range. Also has Full HD video, high speed burst and a pin-sharp electronic viewfinder.
Extra Bright 24x Zoom
The Leica 24x (25-600mm equivalent) zoom lens features f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range. This is the world’s first zoom of this range on a compact digital camera to have full range f/2.8 maximum. The lens also has Nano Surface Coating as protection against ghosting and flare. If the huge 24x zoom still needs to be extended then there is 48x Intelligent Zoom which uses Intelligent Resolution Technology to enlarge the image with very little falloff in quality.
High Sensitivity and Low Noise
The FZ-200 uses a 12.1 Megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor which has a high Signal-to-Noise ratio and there is further Advanced Noise Reduction using the Venus Engine processor. This uses a combination of Multi-process and Intelligent Noise Reduction methods, the latter separating smooth and edge areas for different levels of noise reduction. What does all this mean for your pictures? These features combined with the bright lens optics allow the FZ200 to carry on shooting quality images in levels of light far below the point where many other cameras fail to produce images at all.
The High Speed MOS Sensor is also useful in that its fast operation allows 12fps Burst shooting, using the mechanical shutter at full resolution. There is also a fast 0.95-second startup time and Light Speed Autofocus to make sure you don’t miss that all-important shot.
In addition to the large 3.0” monitor, this camera is equipped with a 1.312 million-dot 0.20-inch EVF (electronic viewfinder) with 100% field of view. The refresh rate of 60fps makes it possible to easily track fast moving subjects.
Full HD Progressive Video
The DMC-FZ200 records in the highest video quality, Full 1920×1080 50p HD in AVCHD format. There is also a 100fps High Speed HD Video (720p) mode – or 200fps in VGA for dramatic slow motion. For files to transfer to computer and share online there is the option of MP4 recording. Power O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilisation) with Active Mode makes it possible to film while walking and is also ideal for filming children playing.
The Lumix FZ200 appeared in Amateur Photographer where it was rated very good and was given 81%…
“While the bridge camera market is crowded, the Panasonic FZ series has proved popular over the years, and this latest model should be no exception. For those wanting the control of a DSLR but with the features of a compact camera, it strikes a very nice balance.”
The FZ200 was recently reviewed by Photography Blog where it was highly recommended with a rating of 4.5 stars… “Astonishingly the FZ200 has a constant aperture of F/2.8 throughout its now relatively modest 24x zoom range, which arguably offers greater benefits to the photographer than increasing the telephoto reach.”
