Imagination in Motion
The camera all Sony fans have waited for – The Sony A7S III. After 5 years this isn’t just one or two updates, this is a reconstruction from the ground up, making this camera the best of its kind. Features include 10-bit 4:2:2, 4k, 120 frames per second recording, an all-new sensor with larger pixels for improved lowlight performance, incredibly fast autofocus and a newly redesigned menu system and full HDMI output. Wow!
Sony A7S III photo features for photographers
There is no denying that this is a camera focused on video. However, there is still plenty for the photographer who wants to shoot stills. You’ve got 14 stops of dynamic range, a range of new colour profiles and a QXGA 120fps 9.44 million dot electronic viewfinder and 0.9 magnification. Higher than anything else in the same class of camera on the market. The menu system has been updated (finally) making it more simple in a vertical interface all selectable by touch screen.
A7S III specs and video features for Videographers
Sony set out to make the “best 4K footage on the market” for creatives looking for UHD picture quality without the usual limitations. Imagine this – you can now video in 10-bit colour, 4K 120p (with a 1:1 crop) and FHD 240p recording and the incredibly fast autofocus will work in all shooting modes including the 4K 120p with real-time eye AF covering 92% of 759 phase-detection points.
Now with all these amazing features you made be worried whether the camera will overheat? Sony has added a new heat-dissipating structure for the A7S III, that can enable hour-long shooting sessions at 4K 60p before the camera overheats. Pretty cool right?
If that’s not enough, Sony has added a fully articulating screen and a newly designed 12.1-megapixel full-frame Exmor R CMOS back-illuminated sensor which has larger pixels for improved lowlight performance than its predecessor – a lowlight master in the making. The processor has also been updated too with the new Bionz XR being listed as 8x faster than the older model.
For stabilisation, Sony has gone further. Introducing Active mode. This uses the IBIS and the software to give greater stabilisation when you’re shooting handheld. However, a dedicated gimbal will still give you smoother footage.
